Word Word Web

I discovered an AJAX Word proccessor from Slashdot called Writely.

I’ve been waiting around for a Web application to upload and edit/print Word files for sometime. Though this is a dissapointing implementation. Understandable when Microsoft are keen to break standards and interoperablity as much as possible to hang on to their monopoly over Office tools.

Word uploads in Writely are converted to HTML. Oh sweet baby jesus. The one page Word document with an image became four pages. :(

Not good.

Sidenote: I actually use Openoffice over Word on the desktop and I am quite happy with it. I wish the great work at Openoffice could help with editing Word documents over the Web.

If you like this, you might like the stateless Web kiosk software I develop. Webconverger typically replaces Windows on PCs and is deployed in public and business environments for ease of deployment and privacy. Once installed it auto-updates making it painless to maintain. Try it where you exclusively use the only viable open platform... the Web!
