Android Apple Ketchup

SIM lock dialog

Here are my first impressions of using an Android G1 mobile in the UK.

Android is playing catchup to Apple. Google has tripped up by thinking development is happening in Java. Though with “Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 1.0; en-gb; dream) AppleWebKit/525.10+ (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.0.4 Mobile Safari/523.12.2” simply being the first mobile to ship with Geolocation for Web applications is a great start.

Update: I’m taking more notes down at Life with a T-mobile G1 in the UK.

FWIW, I’m having quite a positive experience with my T1 in the UK. I could go down your list and explain why many of these issues aren’t a problem for me, but that wouldn’t be particularly helpful.

I agree with your point from another post about how poor the PR has been. Just a few bus stop posters. In fact, the first I’d even heard of the phone was when Eric Raymond got one. Luckily I managed to get my phone on day 1 by going to my local T-Mobile shop before work.

First thing this morning I got a firmware update. Presumably this fixes the exaggerated bug.

e65 contacts using google sync

Gmail sync works for my e65 (and for symbian phones in general as well as loads of others). Here's the setup instructions http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/topic.py?topic=14298
