Cycle ambulance at Critical Mass

Since the weather in Woking sucks today, I went out to buy some waterproof trousers to go over my jeans. 50GBP! That’s the nylon ones, not fancy pantsy GORE TEX.

So there is a ‘Green’ ‘Environmentally friendly’ scheme run by the UK government called Ride2Work, to help people get on their push bikes. When I asked Evans bike shop employees about the scheme, they said that the government scheme is so complicated Evans themselves have not managed to roll it out for their own employees.

More stupid government bureaucracy? I must write a letter to my MP.

In other news, I was accidentally hanging around on the last Friday of the month outside the National Theatre (ugly building) and I noticed a lot of police. It turns it out it was Critical Mass London. I must join next time…

The cycle to work scheme from the government isn’t that complicated. That Evans bike shop haven’t worked out how to roll it out for themselves is pretty strange. Most bike companies (small and large) I’ve heard of have managed how to do it, including the (shameless plug time) bike co I work for. They seem to be able to work the scheme, as most companies do, with the minimum of hassle. It is a great idea. I’m cycling 17 miles each way to work on a nice Specialized Allez thansk to the ride 2 work scheme and I’m grateful to whom ever came up with it for getting me nice bike cheaper than I would have otherwise.

Somebody was telling me about the cycle to work scheme over the weekend, wish I could remember who. They were saying that your company takes the money you spend out of your wages so that you get the amount of tax you pay off the purchase price, he reckoned that you would end up paying 40% of the total price. I think it was Richard.
