So Mozilla went from stupid popups to hidden headers in pages, which people ignore as they expect it to be a popup warning.

Sigh.

I hate having to restart Firefox after updating an extension. If it kept the state of all my open tabs like Opera does, then OK, maybe.

This update system scares me a little. Surely it undermines the Debian package system?

Surely you didn’t think there wasn’t an extension for saving tabs on exit?

Woo, nice.

Though Firefox updating itself is one issue. What about packaging the 10 extensions with my particular Firefox “Web platform” setup?!

Firefox is an OS…

The update of Firefox itself is supposed to be disabled in the debian package. If you can do it, then please file a bug report.

‘bookmark this group of tabs’ does it for me.

It only undermines Debian’s packaging system in the same way that allowing people to untar binaries and install them that way undermines Debian’s packagain system. A lot of work in the 1.5 cycle actually went into making it possible for extensions to be installed easily using scripts, which means that theoretically people could start packaging extensions for inclusion into Debian’s repositories.

Warnings are difficult. Disabling extensions entirely was unacceptable to the project leadership. There are only so many choices one can make.

You can save your open tabs into a bookmark folder.

The update system for the browser is turned off in the Debian version of Firefox. If you would like to see something really scary, though, take a look at the bug #295720.
