UK ISP frills

Why don’t ISPs consider just supplying Internet? Why do they feel compelled to provide email and Web space, and do a spectacularly crap job at it?

Consider Plus.net my parent’s ISP. Rave reviews a few months back and now they’re a laughing stock for loosing all customer email in a backup blunder. Reading their status feed makes me cringe.

Web hosting is hard. Most people use hotmail or gmail, no need for email provision by plus.net. The same goes for every other ISP I’ve seen in Britain.

Just provide reliable, cheap Internet access. Please.
